12.1 Certificate Requirements
Granting of the Graduate Certificate in Literacy and Language is contingent upon successful completion of all required courses with a grade of “C” or better, and a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0. The program must be completed within five academic years of matriculating. Additionally, for the Certificate of Advanced Study in Literacy and Language (with licensure) (CAS), students must complete all paperwork associated with applying for their Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (ESE) license as a reading specialist.
Note: The CAS Literacy and Language and the Graduate Certificate in Literacy and Language (with practicum) hold the Accreditation Plus level of certification from the International Dyslexia Association (IDA). Upon taking and passing the KPEERI exam after completing these programs, students are eligible for certification at the level of Dyslexia Interventionist.
The Graduate Certificate in Literacy and Language (without practicum) is NOT approved by the IDA because it does not include a practicum.
