5.10 Student Appeal Process
Students requesting an exception to a program policy, academic requirement, or program decision may be required to submit a formal appeal. The Program Director or their designee will notify students when a formal appeal is necessary.
- Appeals must be submitted in writing and should clearly identify the policy, requirement, or decision being appealed, as well as the rationale for the requested exception.
- Appeals should be submitted via email to the Program Director or their designee.
- Upon receipt of an appeal, the Program Director or designee will review the request and may consult with the student, relevant faculty members, and other individuals as appropriate. Both the student and involved faculty members may be asked to provide additional documentation supporting their position.
- When warranted, the Program Director or designee may convene an Appeal Committee to review the matter and provide recommendations. Students may be invited to attend the hearing and provide additional clarification regarding their appeal. The Appeal Committee will meet within ten (10) business days of being convened.
- The Program Director or designee will communicate the final decision to relevant stakeholders within five (5) business days of the hearing.
In situations requiring an expedited decision (e.g., prior to the start of a semester), timelines for submitting appeals, scheduling hearings, and communicating decisions may be adjusted based on the circumstances of the case.
Students who believe that procedures, facts, or policies were misinterpreted, applied inconsistently, or that a decision was made arbitrarily may appeal an unfavorable program decision in accordance with the SHRS Appeal Policy. Such appeals must be submitted in writing to shrsdean@mghihp.edu within ten (10) business days of receiving written notification of the program decision.
