i. Guidelines for Reappointment
Reappointment of faculty members is part of the shared responsibility of the University's administrative leadership, faculty, and Board of Trustees. Consideration of reappointment is one indicator of successful participation in the academic mission of the University.
The Provost is responsible for making recommendations to the University's Board of Trustees regarding faculty reappointment. Recommendations are informed by the following considerations:
- The recommendation of the faculty member’s academic unit leader;
- Evidence that the faculty member has contributed meaningfully to the mission and vision of the University;
- Continuing demand within the academic program or unit for the faculty member’s expertise and service, and where applicable, the availability of sufficient grant, contract, or other extramural funding to support the faculty member’s position; and
- Evidence of the faculty member’s commitment to reflect the University's core values and comply with institutional policies, including policies regarding conflict of interest, outside professional activities, research misconduct, patents, and copyright.
The Faculty Affairs team within the Office of the Provost coordinates the faculty reappointment process. Faculty Affairs, in collaboration with the Office of Human Resources, maintains records of faculty appointment terms and timelines.
