e. Initiation and Administrative Review
A faculty member may submit a written request for review to the Provost or designee within forty-five (45) calendar days of when the faculty member knew or reasonably should have known of the action at issue. This forty-five (45) day period includes time for the faculty member to pursue resolution through informal processes, as described in Section IV of this policy. All requests must be submitted through the Faculty Problem Resolution Request form.
Upon receipt of a request for review, the Provost or designee will conduct an initial assessment of whether the matter falls within the scope of this policy.
If the Provost or designee determines that the matter is within the scope of this policy, then the respondent will have an opportunity to submit a written response. When a respondent response is submitted, the grievant can optionally submit a limited reply, which may only address the respondent’s submission and may not introduce new issues.
If a matter is accepted for review, decisions regarding next steps, including whether to convene a Faculty Review Panel and the identification of panel members, will be made as promptly as practicable, generally within ten (10) to fifteen (15) business days. Timeframes may vary based on the nature and complexity of the matter, but efforts will be made to ensure a fair and timely resolution.
The standard operating procedures for this policy further outline procedures for matters that need to be resolved through formal resolution processes.
