4.9 Examinations
Missing an exam:
If a student is unable to take an exam at the scheduled time, they must notify the instructor in advance, with a valid reason (e.g., illness, religious holiday, or death in the family). Except in extenuating circumstances, failure to notify in advance will result in a lowered grade for that exam.
Making up a missed exam:
The student must arrange with the instructor to take the exam within 48 hours of the original date; the instructor determines the make-up exam's format. Failure to make timely arrangements will result in a grade of zero. If a student becomes ill during an exam, they must notify the instructor immediately — not after the exam — and follow the same make-up process above.
In-class exam conduct:
During in-class exams, students must remove all needed items from their bags before the exam begins and place bags and cell phones away from their seat; no additional papers may be on the desk unless authorized. Students must refrain from talking or discussing the exam outside the classroom unless instructed otherwise, and should inform faculty before leaving the room (only one student may leave at a time). Faculty may impose additional guidelines as needed.
Take-home and online exam conduct:
Faculty will specify the degree of student interaction permitted, which students must follow strictly, including any lockdown browser requirement; if students are expected to work independently, questions should go to the instructor only. Use of generative AI is prohibited (see Section 6). Failure to comply with exam-taking requirements will result in a grade of zero, with no opportunity for a make-up.
