Emerging Practice Settings: Supervision Where no Occupational Therapy Services Exist
In certain Level II fieldwork settings where occupational therapy services are not actively provided onsite, the Institute may establish affiliations provided that a documented plan is in place to ensure appropriate occupational therapy supervision. In such instances, students must be supervised by a licensed or credentialed occupational therapist with at least three years of professional experience.
Supervision must include at least 8 hours per week of direct supervision, and an occupational therapy supervisor must be available to the student during all working hours through various means of communication. Additionally, when the occupational therapy supervisor is off-site, an on-site supervisor designee from another profession must be assigned to provide day-to-day oversight and support.
At this time, the University does not offer established international Level II fieldwork placements due to the absence of active site contracts. Students who are interested in pursuing an international placement may consult with the Academic Fieldwork Coordinator (AFWC) to explore potential opportunities. Such requests will be considered on a case-by-case basis and are contingent upon the identification of an appropriate site and the successful establishment of a formal affiliation agreement.
All international Level II fieldwork placements must receive formal approval from both the Mass General Brigham University of Health Professions and Mass General Brigham (MGB) in accordance with institutional requirements.
Students are also encouraged to pursue global and international health experiences through elective coursework and service activities offered through the University.
