Eligibility to Begin a Fieldwork Experience
To be eligible to begin any full-time fieldwork education course, students must satisfactorily complete all pre - requisite coursework. To enter OT 761, students must also have a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or above
Professional behavior, including effective communication, ethical conduct, planning, organization, time management, and responsiveness to feedback, is an essential expectation of occupational therapy practice and is addressed throughout the curriculum. If concerns related to professional behavior, planning, or organization arise prior to the start of fieldwork, the Academic Fieldwork Coordinator (AFWC) may discuss these concerns with the student and recommend appropriate institutional resources to support readiness for fieldwork. Engagement with recommended supports is encouraged to promote student success.
Students must also meet all additional program, University, and fieldwork facility requirements for entering a specific fieldwork experience. These requirements include, but are not limited to:
- Registering for the fieldwork education course and paying all tuition and fees.
- Complying with Institute immunization and certification requirements
- Complying with the site’s health/immunization requirements, CPR certification, HIPAA and OSHA training, and any other onboarding requirements, some of which may differ from University requirements, and submitting all required documentation prior to the placement start date, meeting designated deadlines.
- If required by the site, submitting to and passing a criminal background check, drug testing, and/or fingerprinting, as required by the fieldwork site. These and other additional items may be required at the cost of the student.
- Being available to participate in the experience during dates and times designated by the fieldwork site.
- Meeting and adhering to the site’s policies and procedures regarding personnel requirements, such as
- dress code, safety, etc.
- Other course specific requirements as outlined in the course syllabus.
