3.2 Academic Standards, Grading, and Evaluation
All courses in the Behavioral Health Paraprofessional Training Program are graded on a traditional letter scale (A, A-, B+, B, B-, C+, C, C-, D, F). Prerequisite courses cannot be audited nor taken as pass/fail. To successfully complete the program, students must earn a C or higher in each course.
Student learning is evaluated through participation, written assignments, quizzes and knowledge checks, simulations, supervisor evaluations, and a capstone project. These assessments are designed to support learning while also evaluating readiness for professional practice.
Time Limit
The Behavioral Health Paraprofessional program must be completed within 3 years of a student's initial matriculation at MGH Institute.
Dropping a Course
Students who are considering dropping a course are encouraged to consult with the course instructor and program director to discuss the circumstances before submitting a formal drop request. Dropping a course (or courses) has the potential to impact many aspects of enrollment including but not limited to course grades, financial aid, and academic progression.
Incomplete Coursework
A grade of incomplete may be considered for a student who does not complete all requirements for a course due to extenuating circumstances. Temporary grades of incompletes may be arranged with the instructor(s). Students must complete all course requirements to change an incomplete grade according to the timeline agreed upon by the instructor(s), not to exceed one calendar year from the date of the request. If a student does not complete the required work within the stipulated time period, the grade will automatically change to a “Fail.” Permission from the instructor(s) will be required for extension of time for completion.
Students may be prohibited from registering for additional courses while they have an incomplete grade.
Course Re-Take Policy
Students must earn a grade of C or higher in all courses in the certificate. Courses in which a student earns a grade below C may be repeated to satisfy program requirements.
Repeating a course may affect a student's academic progression and anticipated graduation timeline. Students are encouraged to consult with their academic advisor when considering course repetition.
