5.2.1 Professional Behavior and Emotional Readiness

Students must demonstrate the emotional and behavioral capacity to participate safely, respectfully, and professionally in academic and behavioral health environments.

Students must be able to:

  • Demonstrate appropriate judgment, self-awareness, emotional regulation, and professionalism
  • Respond appropriately to feedback, supervision, and direction
  • Maintain professional boundaries with peers, faculty, clients, patients, and staff
  • Participate in learning and clinical environments without posing a risk to the safety or wellbeing of others
  • Function appropriately in situations involving stress, uncertainty, emotionally difficult content, or interpersonal conflict
  • Demonstrate reliability, accountability, and professional conduct
  • Adapt behavior appropriately across classroom, online, community, and clinical settings
  • Refrain from behaviors that substantially interfere with learning, teamwork, supervision, or safe participation in care environments

Because behavioral health work may involve exposure to emotionally difficult situations, students must be able to engage in learning activities involving mental health conditions, trauma, substance use, crisis intervention, suicide prevention, and related behavioral health topics in a safe and professionally appropriate manner.
