5.2.2 Communication Skills
Students must be able to communicate effectively, respectfully, accurately, and professionally with individuals from diverse backgrounds and with varying communication abilities.
Students must be able to:
- Communicate effectively in spoken and written English
- Understand and follow verbal and written instructions
- Participate appropriately in discussions, supervision, and team-based learning
- Demonstrate respectful interpersonal communication
- Accurately convey information in classroom and fieldwork settings
- Maintain confidentiality and privacy in all forms of communication
- Use appropriate communication methods in professional and clinical environments, including electronic communication
Students must also be able to communicate effectively with individuals who may be experiencing emotional distress, cognitive challenges, altered thought processes, substance intoxication or withdrawal, or behavioral dysregulation.
